Preparing For Winter Checklist

If you happen to live in and are that receives the winter weather then make sure you have everything ready for that cold and blowing snow.

Home:

• Have chimney inspected and cleaned
• Turn off and drain outdoor water supply and put away water hoses. 
• Gather winter outdoor equipment that may be needed, such as shovels, prepare snowblower, ice melt – See homemade recipes.
• Repair driveways, sidewalks and steps.
• Schedule furnace inspection and cleaning.
• Check for any roof repairs that may be needed.
• Clear gutters.
• Replace smoke alarm batteries.
• Stock up on emergency items, such as flashlights, batteries, water and firewood.
• Seal any drafty windows or doors with caulk or plastic.
• Cover any plants that may be affected by the weather or by the critters looking for food.
• Store any lawn decorations that may break due to the cold weather.

 

Auto:

• Place snow broom and ice scraper in car.
• Stock up on windshield wiper fluid.
• Put a blanket in the trunk for emergencies along with flashlight, first aid kit, shovel, and a candle.
• Install winter tires and windshield wiper blades.
